Think back to when you first opened your business. There you were, new to the neighborhood and more than likely wishing for some way to announce your presence to the world. Wouldn’t it have been fantastic if you had been able to send a postcard to every single person in the neighborhood?

Thanks to Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM), you can. It’s an affordable and easy-to-use service offered through the United States Postal Service that’s designed to help businesses advertise cheaply and thoroughly to specific areas.

Here are some of the biggest reasons to use it.

Complete Coverage

One of the beauties of Every Door Direct Mail is that it allows businesses to saturate a specific zip code with their marketing materials. Unlike other direct mail campaigns, EDDM targets every last home in the areas that you choose.

No Guesswork

Including every home in the neighborhoods takes the guesswork out of your campaign. This can be especially helpful for new businesses in the area, who simply want to get their name out into the community. But every marketing campaign does better when targeted to a specific audience. Here, EDDM has you covered too. One you select your desired zip code, you can further narrow your targeting area by property type, resident age, and household size and income. It’s an easy-to-use tool that takes all the guesswork out of targeting your mail recipients.

Affordable

EDDM is cheap. Currently the average postage cost of an EDDM piece is 18.3 cents, which is only about one-third the cost of a stamp. This makes it one of the most affordable large-scale marketing campaigns out there, and the perfect solution for countless business types.

Variety

EDDM postcards are required to be specifically sized for the sake of uniformity. Still, their parameters within which your mailer must fall are pretty broad. As long your piece is between 10.5 and 15 inches long, 6.12 inches and 12 inches high, and 0.25 and 0.75 inches thick, your mailer should be acceptable. Here are some suggested sizes:

  • 8.5” x 11”
  • 8.5” x 14”
  • 9” x 6.25”
  • 10” x 7”
  • 11” x 6.25”
  • 11” x 17”
  • 12” x 6”

So though sizing may be specific for direct mailers, you still have plenty of creative freedom when it comes to designing your postcard.
